Two held with Rs 58.71 lakh in Howrah's Golabari

In the Golabari police station area of Howrah, two individuals were detained with a staggering amount of Rs 58.71 lakh during naka checking by police authorities. The incident unfolded when a yellow taxi was halted and inspected due to suspicion, leading to the discovery of the substantial sum in possession of the two passengers.

Identified as Bhupendra Singh and Prashant Singh, the individuals had alighted from Madhya Pradesh's Vasinda Chambal Express at Konnagar station and embarked on a yellow taxi with intentions to reach Kolkata. Joint nakachecking by Howrah City Police and Central Corps near Golabari police station led to their apprehension after inconsistencies arose during interrogation, prompting the involvement of the Income Tax Department for further investigation.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the detainees, purportedly gold traders, had ventured to Kolkata to collect jewelry from Barabazar. The Income Tax Department, alongside Howrah City Police officials, is currently interrogating Bhupendra Singh and Prashant Singh at Golabari police station to ascertain the veracity of their claims. The incident underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the enforcement of financial regulations and combating potential illicit activities.
